Well considering that they are both long winded ways of doing simple maths with a high percentage of *%^&* ups possibly due to a lack of space on paper. Then again, I can try to be neater, and figure out the optimal way to set out tales with space for basic workings!

…continued Lecture 7

  1. The Big M method includes the artificial variable from the outset, the 2 phase splits the equation to allow you to manage the artificial variable to completion in Phase One before introducing the rest of the coefficients and complicating the maths.
  2. Both are long winded, but the 2 Phase might just be longer but have a lesser chance of error, perhaps…
  3. To be updated at a future date, if I realise more…

Similarities

  1. The row calculations are the same for Phase 2, and Big M
  2. The bfs basic feasible solution at the point of those iterations are the same
  3. The solutions are the same

Differences

  1. The coefficient headings on the tables between the two types are different
  2. The deviation rows answers are different
