Happy Father’s Day
Happy Father’s Day Dad
So, my dad has diabetes. In a way – he’s the reason we persevere with this product line.
I mean, for many years my family supplied Home Industries with cakes and shortbreads. Even Checkers supermarkets carried our products at some point. So Sugar and Shite can make money, but now my dad has diabetes and well I’m not going to say that the sugar business didn’t make me rounder.
Currently, our healthy products – my dad loves all of these.
Currently, our healthy products – my dad loves all of these. Over Christmas he asked me to make him a Healthy Christmas Cake version. Which he said, after his attempt to make it with the premix and instructions I sent him, ” Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!”
So – like my skinny self was for most of my 20’s, my dad now doesn’t do flour, he doesn’t do the white stuff. And at every check up, he’s on less and less of that horrible diabetes meds – seriously, that stuff…I’m just saying if you can stay away from getting to that point – the better.
I am so grateful to my mum who taught me how to bake and cook – a serious master baker, she can work magic with her skills…She also always taught nutrition too, creating the life-long interest. If I didn’t want to eat something, “Well that has Vitamin B for energy”, or, “That has the form of calcium that is the most easily absorbed by the body – your choice.” I’d find myself as a child, eating what was good for me. My decision. Smart woman.
In the end, you get a lot from your parents, and as you and they get older – well I find myself appreciating more and more, the interesting human beings that they are.
Dad – always the laughing poet with so much heart. I love you dearly. This one’s for you. Thank you for being my dad.
Happy Father’s Day Dad.
