
My Body
I have great respect for my body.
It is a tough beast.
Perhaps not visually, it can come across soft and squidgy,
but it does so much.
It allows me,
- to get around; my legs
- to do things, to create; my hands
- to feel pleasure, desire; my sex
I can command a natural high – by jogging a little, to allow enhanced mental fortitude for a particularly challenging day ahead.
I’ve been alerted to dangerous situations by the hairs on my neck and arms bristling and standing to attention.
I can generate an intense spurt of energy with a black coffee, for the day I need vigour, focus, or extra hours.
I’ve tried pills – sure – fun. The pharmaceutical industry has bottled all of these chemical instructions – truly miracles. I just don’t like the side effects. I don’t like not being able to register my thirst, or not knowing when my body requires sleep.
I consider my existence, an opportunity for quiet personal mastery. I like knowing, … I like knowing – it was me.
Sure, there have been days, when my heart has been sore and hurt, letting go – and that needs a duvet, tissues and wet-wipes, and the most delicious comfort food I can get my hands on – but I’ve planned for that. The dried pasta waiting for sauce is made of mung-beans. The bread is high protein, made of seeds. There’s plenty of fruit in my house, that I can pop into the air-fryer for a decadent roasted pudding, or reach for the frozen fruit with protein powder for my version of ice-cream.
Is this all, taking ownership and responsibility for my existence?
