What can I do today to be a better earthling? I am here now. The state of the world is as it is already. One cannot wait for others to take responsibility. This blog post will be continually updated regularly with new items I realise are needed in order to make the planet a better place for all.
Items that are being actioned in order to create a better peace on this a better piece of the planet earth.
Make fresh water accessible – Animal Care
- Put out fresh water daily for other creatures, lets call them all earthlings – who do not have the ability to open a tap for themselves. I have now added a drip tray underneath my pet chickens fresh water bowl, so that creatures who are much tinier – such as the baby kiewiet in a previous article, can get access to water and foodstuffs on the ground around the water bowl. Date of entry 30052023.
Know which creatures are your neighbours – Animal Care
2. Keep track of the animals you share your piece of the planet with. You are these creatures guardian, here to help and protect them.
Here’s the list of creatures who are living in the area around me link to article here. This was updated on the 09062023.
Support your earthling neighbours – Animal Care
3. If you are aware that certain animals are meant to be in your area and you haven’t seen them, ensure your environment supports them and assists them in a safe and with nature manner.
You can find the full IUCN Red List for Endangered Species here.
Mind your lighting – Animal Care
4. We, human beings, need our ecosystem to be healthy for our own survival. This means we must do all we can to create a healthy ecosystem. Every creature needs access to water, and a habitat to create a home in, and a space to find food at.
Our use of excessive lighting to allow our tiny eyes sight into the dark outside, causes harm to our planet. By changing our use of lighting, we can ensure that everything gets what it needs…
Switch off your excess night lights or perhaps consider motion sensor-ed lighting or even amber lighting which does not disturb wildlife.
Otherwise you are interrupting the hunters’ ability to find food & burning up limited fossil fuel in the process.
If security is your concern – give it a rethink…
You are lighting up your space so someone who is unfamiliar with it –
can now see everything…

Water your garden at night or in the evenings – Water H2O Care
5. If you are one of the lucky ones blessed with space and a garden, water your soil at night. This should even be applicable to farmers. Studies show that water vapour in the air is one of the greatest contributing factors to the climate warming.
I studied – Technologies for Renewable Energy, via an online university course, and it showed that the earths temperature change is being impacted the most by water vapour in the air.
What would be the reason for water vapour increasing in the air? In thinking about this, the following list comes to mind:
- Water emissions by industry (in the air)
- Sprinklers on during the day while the sun is able to heat the water most effectively causing evaporation, i.e. increasing humidity.
Watering in the evening, and at night, has the benefit of being absorbed by the soil more readily, and being less easily evaporated by our scorching sun.
Useful products to help with this cause would be:
- Sprinkler timers set at night
- Underground watering piping, so that less water gets in contact with the air and dries, vs more contact with the soil
- Clay pots for watering buried in the soil
I will add to this in a future post. #to-do
